How to Use Delay Pedals - How Do You Work This Thing?! #4

Delay is one of my favorite effects to use on the guitar. Unfortunately, it can be easy to overuse and difficult to dial in if you are new to it. In this installment of “How Do You Work This Thing?!” Chelsea and I will show you how to use your delay pedal and dial in some beautiful tones.

We will start by going over the basic controls you will see on most delay pedals. These include effect level, feedback, delay type, and delay time. The most elusive of these controls is probably the delay type. To help you deal with this, we will cover some of the most common delay types including, analog, digital, tape, and modulated.

Since there are so many ways you could set a delay pedal up, we will also go through three go-to settings that you can use as a starting point. These include a slapback delay, an all-purpose dotted eighth note delay, and a longer lead delay.

The main thing to remember as you dig into the world of delay is to experiment with the pedal you have and get to know the settings so you can dial them in quickly. Leave any comments, tips, or questions you may have here. We would love to hear from you.
