Here is a super-popular tune for you to learn. It’s the song Shallow from the movie A Star is Born. This lesson is complete with a jam track and TAB so you can learn as quickly as possible and have some fun being the guitar player in the band once you have it down.
This song can be fairly easy or pretty tough, depending on how close you want to get it to the recording. If you only want to get the gist of the song, all you need to do is memorize the main progressions and one variation for each fingerstyle pattern. That will be enough for you to kind of wing your way through it.
However, if you want to play the song exactly like the recording, it will require a little more work. The chord progressions are pretty simple and consistent throughout the song, but the fingerpicking patterns change quite often. It's not that this song is that hard, it's just that there is a lot to memorize if you want to play it note for note.
Take your time, have fun, and contact us with any questions you may have as you learn. If you need any extra help, you can book a private 1-on-1 lesson with me. The first one is complimentary, so I’ll be looking forward to meeting you.
I like this song, I will have to add it to the list of songs I want to learn.
I learned it when the movie first came out and still enjoy playing it from time to time. It's a great finger-style pop song and an excellent addition to the GuitarFam song lessons. I'm sure many members will enjoy learning it as I did.
That said, I did learn it on my own and on first viewing do see lots of details I didn't catch so will be working through the video to improve how I already play it. Thanks Nate! :-)
