How do you get past the pentatonic box and express yourself as a blues guitarist?
The blues is the foundation for so many styles of music on the guitar, and if you get the blues down, you will be in a great position to tackle any style you want.
The problem is that most of us start with a bigger pentatonic box shape and then wonder why we end up sounding like we are just running up and down a scale. That can be very frustrating and discouraging. So how do you get past this?
The key is to break things down into smaller and more manageable chunks. Once you have that chunk down, you can add another small chunk to it.
It’s kind of like going to the gym. You don’t sit down to bench press for the first time and start with 250 pounds! That would be insane. You start with 45 or 75 pounds and slowly work your way up.
Starting with the full minor pentatonic scale to create blues solos is like starting with 250 pounds. It’s just too much at first. We will break things down into smaller components and slowly work up to the minor pentatonic scale. Once you understand the basics, it will be much easier to tackle topics like major pentatonic scales, arpeggio ideas, double stop licks, turnaround licks, and a lot more.
All 15 modules of the Blues Hound help you apply everything to music through new rhythm guitar parts, written-out solos, tips for improvising, and jam tracks so you can be the guitar player in the band. There are even video practice sessions for each new concept, so you know exactly what to practice and when to move on.
When you understand the blues, everything on the guitar opens up for you, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
